i have a dream
my usb hub will be more than a slave to my PC
my dinky 4 port usb hub will unite all my 100$ electronic usb, wireless, bluetooth, infared, rfid-enabled flash drive memory upgradable devices into a portable mini computer/studio/workstation/007 spy device
i supose this should have been done long ago, because now who cares about physically connecting anything i mean like thats so old school right? that so 90's man
USB, portable usb enabled devices, and USB hubs have been around forever. i remember that my first PC a pentium 166 actually had a USB port on it and my friends were like WOW thats usb huh...i wonder if there will actually ever be anything that uses that port! years later, after giving the motherboard in that PC to the cause for my parents upgrade from a 486, after the USB port had rusted and become unusable, we bought a USB printer.... what was the point i was making? oh yeah. usb is old... old enough for the first port i saw to rust before we actually had a use for it. so we bought an add-in card and everything was cool. i hope this story is correct but its probably not but you can imagine something like that happening. something close to it did. ask the guys theyll remember i had USB first!
*ahem* l33tness and 0ldsch00ling claims aside, i did have a real point somewhere and probably lost anyone but myself who would care to read it.

maybe i should stop beating around the bush and rush right into an example before giving you a good idea of what im talking about. my professers always do this to me so im going to try it out here
lets say you are out at the beach getting a sun burn and drinking beer with your friends when a UFO lands on the beach and a little green man in a suit gets out and starts walking towards you. whats the first thing you are going to do? (not run you wuss)
you will reach for your fancy shmancy 200$-900000$ digital camera and try to get in a few shots before getting probed
but then murphy will be there.
you will have only one shot left on the puny 128MB SD in your camera
or even worse, no shots. and all the other stuff on the camera is like your wifes sisters wedding pictures or something equally death sentance forbiddenly write protected.
but in your bag you always keep a 64mb flash drive, a sony Mp3 player, and a palm m515,
all of these devices have space that you could REALLY use right about now for storing pictures but they are not cameras and thus you are defeated. you might as well not even look. let alone take the shot. no one will believe you with only one photo anyway. and while you scramble to delete that one ugly picture of yourself not enjoying your sister in-laws wedding that probably no one would miss anyway, the damned alien would finish drinking all your beer, pack up the probes and be halfway to uranus. heh.
if only there were a way to borrow the free storage on your 64MB flash drive for a little while.
that sentance above is pretty much the point of my rambling.

and you have this 64MB USB flash drive
and you also have a little 4 port USB hub
here i will explain what a 4 port USB hub is for those of us who might be unclear.
its really small. its about the size of 4 female USB ports side by side because thats all it is, and one male USB cable to connect to your PC's USB port. it basically turns one USB port into 4 so you can connect more stuff to your front (or back) USB ports. you might think this device is amazing, large or costly. but really its only that first thing. its actually REALLY small and i got mine from office max during rebate madness so it was actually FREE.
i will attempt a crude artists rendering of the USB hub for those of you who still just dont get it (huh?)

nowadays we dont see them too much i guess because new PCs have like 4 ports in the back and 2 in the front so people just cram it from both ends. but smart people get a USB hub and dangle it off the front of the PC and get easy access to more front ports.
but we are not here to judge. in fact, we are probably not even here.
the fact is, is that that is a USB Hub up there. i know because i drew it. in ascii so it must be right.
if you dont know what one of these is now and even after seeing me drawing it, chances are you probably have one. thats how stupid you are.

what i meant is that a lot of people probably have this thing hanging off the back end of their PC or laptop allowing them to connect
more USB devices because they only have 1 port and they have like 4 printers (more likely 1 printer one camera dock, 1 scanner, 1 USB dildo, whatever) but they dont even realize it (probably too much time using that 4th device) they ran out of USB ports one day, they went down to office max and told the guy they didnt have a free port for the pleasure max 3000 *cough* i mean usb printer/fax so then the guy sold em the 4 port USB hub for 20$ and told them "its REALLY easy to use, just plug it in to your PC first and then plug your other stuff into it" and then they got home and made thier technically inclined son/daughter "hook it up" for them. old people still think in terms of "hooking things up" they dont realize that we've moved on now, we practically dont physically connect anything anymore and if we do we "plug it in" ...i mean jeez old man..."get a grip!"
ok now that you know i was making fun of technically challenged old-people (our parents) then you are not mad right? and if you are my parents then you know this is true and if you dont like it then i guess you can "hook it up" yourself! (just kidding/notreally)
but "old peoples' technical handicaps" are not the focus here (hey, at least i didnt "technically" say "handicapped old people")
so enough parenthesis and side-traps.

WHAT ON EARTH ABOUT THE HARDWARE YOU HAVE IS STOPPING YOU FROM SNAPPING MORE THAN ONE PICTURE OF THAT DAMNED PARTY CRASHING ALIEN!?
and the answer (i hope) is nothing.
all that is stopping you is software. (keep with me now...this is my dream..i didnt say i did research yet)
so why cant we plug the flash drive into the camera and get more space?

why cant we do this?
because where i have labeled 1. the connectors do not match. even though they are both the same standard (USB) the physical shape of the connectors chosen do not match. you cant plug your flash drive into your camera.
however, there are adaptors.

so you CAN make your USB flash drive plug into your digital camera.
so if you HAVE one of those adaptors still (you might have one for other legitimate purposes) and you actually think to use it to plug your flash drive into your camera and capture space aliens in digital print, think again because even though you do make that leap of faith and make that hardware connection with the adaptor....your stupid camera doesnt know what the hell your flash drive is! it probably wont even know its there. hows that for hospitality?? what an OS. and here is the other point of my post.
YOUR CAMERA HAS AN OPERATING SYSTEM.
it was made by whatever company made your camera. sony, minolta, disney, whatever
but they never thought about anyone but themselves. they live in a world where the only things that exists are you (importantly your money) your camera, and your computer. they have designed the cameras OS to interface between these 3 things. you use your camera, you plug your camera into your computer via USB and then you use the cameras limited software to download the images. with newer cameras, they will actually just show up as a new removable disk drive in my computer and you just copy the images off with windows. it was when these started showing up, and removable flash cards, and flash drives and such, i realized that a camera could also be used...as a flash drive! meaning you could put any files (not only pictures) on the internal (or card) memory of any camera that appears as a removable drive in your my computer when you connect it to the USB port. wow! i thought...no one told us we could do this. they expect us to buy a camera AND a flash drive, now i have both and they dont even know it muwahhahahahhaa (well ok maybe i over-reacted)
but that feeling i got figuring that out was amazing. in a very basic sense, i was hacking my camera.
so of course the very next thought i had after putting some files on was "well if i can put mp3 FILES on this camera, shouldnt i be able to turn this thing into a portable MP3 player as well???
how naive i was for that moment. i knew in the next moment even before i thought of trying it that it wouldnt work.
but in the spirit of doing, i tried it anyway.
i put mp3 files on my camera.
i turned on my camera. my camera shows me my pictures. the end.
the mp3 files were not listed anywhere. the Operating system of the camera does not support mp3 files so it doesnt show them.
the best i can do is .wav files. but still thats not too bad. i could format some wav files downsample them, so they will be smaller and maybe hold a whole album on my camera if im lucky. but that is so stupid! you know the damned thing is powerful enough to process mp3s! it can record and play video with sound!!@!@!
but the company didnt want it to be an mp3 player/camera . they were already selling an mp3 player at the time and they wanted to sell you both, not one that could do it all.
well im getting off track here again. im talking about hacking the OS of a digital camera to support the mp3 files i have put in its memory. that is just one small thing i would like to see happen. one small peice of a larger scale project to ultimately connect every USB device in ways we never thought of.
so even though you can put mp3s on your camera, you cant play mp3 files on your camera because your camera doesnt support mp3 files.
when i say it like that it REALLY sounds crazy doesnt it? but this is how we're conditioned so maybe it doesnt sound crazy to you.
its like "DUH you cant play mp3s on your camera.. aren't YOU crazy??" well whatever, skip the "whos crazy" argument for now.
so in the same way that you cant play mp3s because the company didnt pay its programmers to design the OS to do that
likewise, you cant use the extra space on your flash drive in your camera even though the connection fits and you can plug them into each other. why? because the company didnt pay its programmers to design the OS to do that either. they practically didnt pay them.
the USB flash drive requires power to operate. it gets its power from the PC that you plug it into. the USB bus carries power to devices that require them. you would not be able to plug two flash drives into each other and expect to get any response from either of them.
but the Digital camera has power. it is a portable power and USB DATA resource. so theoretically, if you were to plug the flash drive into the camera, it ought to be able to draw power from the camera.
heres where one thought i just had right now could possibly crumble my whole dream. i have written all these lines for nothing if it is true that the design of the camera (and other portable powered USB enabled devices) specifically prevents sending of power.
like how when you connect your flash drive to your PC the flash drive sucks power thru the USB port.
is that only because the USB port on your computer is designed with that in mind?
would usb ports on digital cameras and portable music devices prohbit sending power? maybe. damn.
well lets just assume you can get power thru the usb port on your digital camera so i can keep going with this. this is all a bunch of rambling anyway so so what.
so if you can get power from your camera from its USB port, then you can power any usb device you like within power limits of the battery. this is where the 4 port USB hub would come in handy. what if you could do this:
for now lets pretend (instead of putting adaptors all over the place) that you understand the concepts behind the fact that we can plug any USB port into any other USB port.
plug the 4 port USB hub into the cameras USB port (use adaptor if necessary, f00)
then plug the 64MB Flash drive into the HUB
so this should be no different than what i was saying before (if that would work)
then you would be able to connect as many flash drives as you wanted (power permitting, and hey you could always plug in your cameras DC source if that became an issue, right?)
of course i am just plugging in a flash drive into a camera because its an easy example and easy to see how it would be useful in extreme alien visitation situations.
the implications of being able to plug any usb device into your camera and therefore, a USB hub are extreme.
you could plug in a wireless network adaptor and then you could set your camera down somewhere and have it stream video to you. a wireless spycam! you could plug in a IR adaptor and interface with the camera on your palm pilot or other PDA.
you could plug in a scanner, and scan images into your camera.
you could plug in a printer, and print images directly from your camera. no more rediculous aftermarket camera dock!
the list goes on and on. im sure people will think of things only people could think of.

still keep in mind that i still know that the cameras OS doesnt support this so this totally doesnt work...i am just WISHING it would. that is the point of this post. it is a wish that somoene (me maybe) could hack the OS's of portable gadgets to give them more flexibility. i know this is already happening with some devices like the ipod, and PSP but who cares about those? heh im talking about the common mans devices. the things we all have but dont use but maybe we would if we could use them better.
so this was just one example. the big picture in my head is still bigger. more general.
this is a story about a camera, a flash drive, and a hub.
but i want to hear a story about some device, a hub, some hacking, and some other device.
like hooking my flash drive into my usb hub and then powering/connecting the hub to my palm pilot.
in my mind this is all a software issue as long as the palm pilot will let power be sent out from its hotsync port...i know it lets power IN!
so for each device its a different story. we could generalize this by fitting the devices into one of two categories.
USB devices that steal power (leeches)
USB devices that have thier own power (servers)
whether or not servers can really serve power to leeches remains to be pointed out to me rudely by someone way smarter than me.
but going with this flow, generally we could say:
for any Leech device X if a Server Y wishes to gain the use of X then Y must be hacked to communicate with X as X is used to. X may not be hacked. also, any Server Y must first be hacked to successfully power a USB hub.
so as we can see from generalizing this, there is going to be a lot of hacking going on. each server will have to be hacked in its own way to accept new devices on the USB hub. at least no hacking of leeches is required. i feel it still could be possible to hack things like a USB flash drive, or a wireless USB adaptor, but probably not in any useful way. better to make the server "emulate" for the device what the device expects to hear from a regular PC connection...
so but its still too much hacking. still too random. still too "everyones on thier own"
but the benefit is that everyone has everything they need to start. no special tools will be needed besides any adaptors depending on usb ports on your devices. and everyone doesnt have to be on thier own,
if i hacked my camera today and got it to accept and power a 4 port USB hub, i could distribute that code, and everyone who has my camera could use a 4 port USB hub as well. so you will download hacks for your specific camera as people hack new devices to work over the USB hub you will connect your camera to your PC and "hack your camera" with the new "bios" or wahtever it will be that updates your cameras OS.
but the disadvantage and "lots of hacking" i see happening here is that for each server, every leech device must be made a hack for, and then when you go to hack up the next server, you have to hack for all the slave devices for THAT server now. like i was talking about my camera but now howabout i want to connect things to my palm, now i have to hack my palm all over for each of those devices.
like if my 64mb flash drive was hacked to work on my camera, that hack would then have to be ported to my palm if i wanted my palm to be able to use the flash drive too.
and what if i wanted to connect two servers? probably i would have to choose which one to hack, depending.
there doesnt seem to be any way around this. i am trying to imagine using hardware which connects, but with no software yet to make them interface.
as long as theres no hardware issue preventing this, i beleive software interfaces could be developed for many devices.
one idea i had to try to minimize hacking of everyones devices was to actually develop a hardware myself.
a BLACK USB BOX if you will.
it would look just like the 4 port USB hub i was talking about, perhaps it would have its own power to solve a lot of issues...
but it would have some memory and processing capability of its own.
so you would download hacks for devices from the ineternet and load them into your USB BLACK BOX and then now your camera magically sees that it has more space because youve plugged in the camera and flash drive into this box.
i dont know if that would work though.
this USB BLACK BOX idea seems like it could only work by making the camera (or any other device) think it was really plugged into a PC, but even then, the camera doesnt let you take pictures and have them stored on your PC instead of the card memory even though you have the usb cable attatched to the PC at the moment. again this is just not something they thought of in the software. it would be nice though, if they had then you could do streaming movies to your hard drive....well if your camera has a feature like that then the USB BLACK BOX would be able to convince your camera it was plugged into a PC and then you could plug in a USB hard drive to the USB BLACK BOX and then the camera would think it had storage space on the PC. all of this code could be done in the black box so no hacking of devices would be necessary. it just has to totally satisfy what type of data the device is expecting to receive.
of the two concepts i dont know which is better, or if any of them will ever happen but i kind of think theres room for both.
lots of people wouldnt want to buy something extra, but on the other hand lots of people dont want to hack thier devices.
for truly extra features you would have to hack your devices. but if you just want to do what you COULD do if you had a PC, then the USB BLACK BOX should be able to emulate all of it, but in a really small box with no screen. you will program or interface and get output from the Black box by plugging it into your computer in order to download the hacks and program it. then once it is ready, it knows what to do depending on which USB devices are plugged in together.
if you have a palm pilot maybe an app could be developed that would let you program and download new hacks to the black box so you would never need to use a PC again!
the black box would be running an OS like how a palm pilot does, in flash memory. i guess it would have to be linux. you could add applications to the black box as if it were sort of a PDA as well, though it does not have a screen, if you are using a Palm pilot to interface witht the black box then apps could be developed that would work in conjunction with the palm. one thing i can think of is having the USB black box running a mail server, then, an app could be developed on the palm to interface with that server to get your email. this is done on the palm by connecting to your PC via infared(im not sure but i think so) so in our example, you would have to install a USB ir adapter in the USB BLACK BOX and then the palm would communicate with that (whithout having to be connected to the black box via USB) the black box could get your mail by having a wireless ethernet adapter installed and periodically checking for new mail, then being ready to send it to the palm whenever.
simple operating system functionality can be acheived in a very small space with no visual display. that will be the essence of the black box. i have seen a device comparable to the "black box" idea im talkng about. it was a tiny little ethernet port with a bit of flash memory in it, and it ran linux and you hook it into the network and its a server. tiniest server ever. you just have to login from somewhere else. but you can turn off every computer in the lab and still have access to it. the black box would be a lot like that, you access it via USB and program it how you like and then it just runs and does its job until you login and tell it to do soemthing a different way.
so the best part about the black box is the hacking is at a minimum, and individual devices dont necesarily need to be hacked.
modules will be developed for the black box to support each device. a module for your camera, a module for your flash drive.
maybe some things wouldnt need a module, like simple flash drives would probably just work because XP doesnt need a driver for those things. i know im thinking in linux but isnt the idea the same? your camera needs a special driver, so basically the black box would just be a mini PC, to load those drivers into. but without any way to access the computer inside the black box, you will be limited to the functions of the devices plugged in. like if you wanted to clear out your camera onto a usb hard drive theres no button in the cameras OS that does that but if you could access the computer inside the black box, it would see the camera as a flash drive and the hard drive as well and you could just copy the files out of the camera into the usb drive. so you will almost need a palm pilot, or another computer with an internet connection, to command the OS inside the black box. or you could just have the OS be really inteligently scripted, and give the black box 4 input buttons that could be mapped to do different things based on the configuration and connection of USB devices....
like if you plug in your camera into port 4 and any USB drive into port 1 and push button1 then it knows you want to copy all the contents from the camera to the drive, if you push 2 it will delete them after, if you push 3 it copies the contents of folder x to the camera, etc etc...so then you could have it scripted to handle most of the things you need to do all thetime, and when you think of some new function youd like you will have to wait until you can use a palm pilot, hook into the USB on a computer, or login from another computer by using a wireless or usb ethernet adaptor plugged into the black box.
if you plug in your mp3 player, and push button 1 it will know to copy all the files from the mp3 directory on your usb hd to the mp3 player.
if you plug in a wireless etherenet adapter and a flash drive and press button 2, it will send out all the email in the email folder on the flash drive...
you could really make it do anything since it would be its own OS, with control over all the normal functions of the USB devices.
plug in a flash drive and a printer, push button 4 and it automatically prints everything in the "print" directory
damn. ive been writing forever now. no ones going to read all this crap!
jeez. ill be lucky if i can get through it later.
well it was a nice dream. and im still going to wish for it everytime i look at all these damned gadgets i have that cant talk to each other without a PC inbetween....
and in case you dont know who murphy is hes the guy with the law. the law named after him. and you know he was actually not even totally correct. it seems with new data that its no longer just "anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" its also "and even things that cant go wrong will STILL go wrong and piss you off incredibly"
hmm....so that first idea i had was really crazy eh. just hook your flash drive into your camera and get more space! i still think it could be possible.... but hacking the camera's OS is probably hard.
the black box still wouldnt let you add more space to your camera like that. but it would give you more options.
but im talking on one hand about "maybe a camera can power a flash drive" and if so, "maybe we can hack the OS in the camera to use it"
and on the other hand "maybe i can build this peice of hardware that doesnt even exist yet except barely even in my head"
both of my hands seem kind of impossible!
but if i had to bet, i would think theres no way in hell im going to build a peice of hardware...that is so way beyond me.
but i almost feel like i could TRY the camera OS hacking...
i was keep bothering myself with "if a camera can power a flash drive" question.
but really if you use a powered 4port hub that shouldnt be a question.
so the BIG FINAL question is: can you hack the OS on a digital camera to recognize a flash drive as extra space?
if thats all i wanted to know then why didnt i just say it in the first place??????

maybe for the first idea (no black box) instead of saying "every slave device needs to have a hack on the server made for it" its not really true
maybe one hack to get the USB properly working will be enough to enable all usb devices to be communicated with properly and USB devices that require drivers in addition to
propper communication will just require that you put the "driver files" which may be different based on the platform youre connecting to (palm / camera /etc) in a proper folder, or with a propr filename left on the root of the camera/palm/etc...hmm i guess that still means you have to hack a driver for each "leech" for each "Server" leeches * servers = lots of hacking drivers...
i guess the issue is that a lot of USB devices are made to run with windows
so they have windows drivers. maybe there will be linux drivers. so if theres linux drivers does that mean that we can install them anywhere we have linux?
then no hacking required, right?
so its really just that you have to get linux on your camera?
just put some kind of *nix on every master and then use the *nix drivers to connect the USB devices...
so then the issue is about the power, well if you use a powered usb hub then thats no issue. so then the issue is about the adapters?
the usb port on the camera, and most if not all cameras is technically an "device side" style port. its a female port. that said, it does send data, its a two way i/o port. but what im saying is that it looks like this ok. jeez.

it is the most basic USB cable imaginable and they dont give it to you and
you have to buy it for your "free with rebate" printer because its not included. one end is the regular male plug that plugs into your female USB port on your PC, the standard USB size and shape, kind of flat rectangular
but on the other end, the end that connects to your printer you would think
would be the same size and shape (because RCA cables were like that and ETHERNET cables are like that and practically every other MALE to MALE cable on earth is like that) thank you USB you have confused us all. the OTHER end of the cable is not flat rectangular. it is square. it is male i guess, but square. so you cant use this cable for anything other than its intended purpose without some kind of adaptor. you cant use it to...lets say plug your usb port into your friends usb port (i wonder what that would do anyway)

seeing this, the flash drive seems to be the opposite of the male that the camera or the printer would desire. this is made on purpose so we dont go thinking we can plug our flash drive into the usb port on the back of our printer. but wouldnt it have been cool if they had made it that way???
why did they forbid it with thier awful connector charades??
and the real question on my mind is...HOW FORBIDDEN DID THEY FORBIDDED IT?
meaning...if we use an adaptor to turn the flash drives regular male style connector to the opposite, will that be acceptable for communication on any level? are the USB cables always one way even though data flows two way?

11:11 pm - Last night a DJ killed my friend

You live in hawaii. You're convinced its a safe place to be. nothing can touch you here because your amakua is looking after you. you'll be fine as long as you dont walk over any heiau's or steal lava rocks from pele. or so we thought...
i was excited last night when i got off from work to pick up karen and she told me about a full moon rave party going on at mckenzie park. of course i wanted to go. so we stopped by at james' house and made plans to meet and then go to the party. we got kind of a late start and didnt arrive until about midnight. the moon was shining so bright, its gravity pulling on the 97 percent water that our bodies are made of. pulling on the 75 percent water that the earth is covered with. legend bestows the full moon with magical powers to bring spirits in from the other dimension. to cause madness in some people.
the music was all surrounding, pervasive...the throbbing beat pulsing through the crowd of ravers, party kids, hippies, children and even a few canine species. the vibe was thick, and positive. in this environment we were all together doing the same thing: escaping. escaping the pressures of everyday reality. jobs, school, life, etc....all of that was quite distanced from you when you walked upon this colerful dancing scene of music and life. you lost yourself in the music, moving your body in any way that felt good. you lost yourself in the crowd because no one needs to stand out. we were all equal there...collectively escaping from our respective lives. its true, some if not many people were having some chemical help to escape themselves. some were drinking, some were smoking herb, some were taking acid. the night must have been almost heaven to a party kid on acid. i arrived sober and i was already so high just from looking at the place. the moon, the stars, the clouds, the trees, the ocean so beautiful and powerful.
we danced for a while...socialized for a few minutes, and then decided to eat the mushroom honey we'd been saving for a few weeks, waiting for that special night when conditions would be perfect for conciousness expansion. the honey was intense, and took some time to eat all of it. we were sitting behind the DJ Booth listening to the DJ spin his records. Tai was playing a remix of ATB's Till i Come and i was thinking to myself that it was way too played out, old, and cheesy to be playing at such a phat party. but the next track came on and i was starting to feel mushrooms coming on and thinking the party was going to be great when suddenly the music slowed, and slowed, and slowed until it stopped. and it was not turned back on.
some were drunk and yelling to turn the music back on. but other people were talking, spreading words from person to person throught the party in a wave of shock as one by one, everyone came to realize why the music had been stopped.
one by one we all had to realize that something terrible had just happened to one of our own. Someone was escaping a little too far.
"Stop the music!! Someone jumped off the cliff!" thats what tai heard. thats why he stopped the music.
"someone jumped off the edge?!?? Who was it?"
was what everyone was asking everyone else. some people were running all over panicing trying to find thier friends to prove they were still alive. and most people did find all their friends they came with. except for one group who had brought thier friend jason.
"Jason's missing!" was what they were saying...
they were scared. looking all over but not finding him. the girls who saw the boy jump off didnt know who he was, so it was eventually just the process of elimination that led to the discovery that it was jason who had jumped. he saw the ultimate escape and he took a flying leap into the shiny blue ocean which had become one with the sky, swirling and hypnotizing...calling him into it. Maybe it was because he had taken acid. Maybe it was because he was such a wild and crazy kid, willing to try anything and beleiving he was invincible. Maybe he wanted to go. his friends will never know. His girlfriend was there, calling for him at the edge of the cliff. calling and calling with no reply. some people said they had heard him down there laughing and swimming just a little bit after he had jumped but that hadnt been heard for quite a while and everyone was completely worried. if your'e at all familiar with the mckenzie park coastline around nighttime you would know just how dangerous it is to go for a swim. even during the day you're taking a chance with your life.
the mushrooms were having a strong affect on me and i started shivering even though i was not really cold. waves of empathy rolled over me as i was feeling the loss of a really good friend. even though i had never met him, he was so close to me. he was one of our brothers. one of us. a party kid...party kids dont die! he's got to be just swimming out there, waiting for the right time to come back and laugh at all of us like it was just some big joke the whole time. and though we waited, he never came. and slowly, over everyone...it sank in. jason is dead.
The party was so strong that when it peaked, someone had to die. maybe jason realized that at that moment in time, at that place, with that music and with these people, would be the best most memorable experience of his whole life. Maybe he was so completed by this experience that he was ready to go...a door opened up just beyond the edge of the cliff, and he jumped through it, out into space to transcend his natural body.
maybe an hour later the helicopter shows up. and then a boat....then another helicopter, firetrucks, ambulances, police, everything....but nothing. not enough. he's gone. his girlfriend is crying. she didnt get to say goodbye. his friends are in shock. some of them even angry, accusing jason of being selfish in taking his life. some people who didnt know him were just angry that the party had stopped. how could you dance anyway while one of your brothers' dead bodies is smashing away at the rocks below you? how could you be so rude? but they were just drunk...
somehow i met the people that were close to him...his friends and some people that had just met him a few times. we were all chilling out, talking about it...smoking weed to feel better as we watched the helicopter fly past and find nothing. I wondered if anyone would blame the DJ. i wondered if the DJ would blame himself. "last night a DJ saved your life? well last night a DJ killed my friend" i like tai and everything..i mean he's a cool guy..but maybe he has to change his DJ name before he gets back on the tables. i kind of want to know what exact song he was playing when jason stepped off from reality. so i dont make the mistake of playing it myself.
by about 4:00 i was too cold...i didnt want to see them pull a body out of the ocean anyway...i dont think i could handle that...so we decided to go home. but we only made it to the car. i couldnt drive so we waited for the sunrise. no matter what happens in the night, the sun always rises and its always beautiful. at least we had made it out alive. at least i could hold karens hand and be thankful for the life i have.
we said goodbye and we left. but i still cant say goodbye to the haunting images in my mind. his lifeless body smashing endlessly against the rocks as he floats away from himself, watching all that he left behind fade away into sunlight. i wish him well...and i hope he makes it, to wherever he was trying to escape to.

we suck. humans suck. we're suckers. we're sucking everything we can without thinking about our children. we're wasting money on fighting wars and blowing up the earth rather than doing what we obviously SHOULD be doing: uniting together to promote the advance of science and medicine and technology and also mind expansion. it seems like the governments that control us are all stuck in this really primitive stage of dick size comparison. my dick is bigger than yours. no its not, and to prove it, here's some bombs, bitch. well that doesnt work. i mean really...we in the US spend more on military than any other nation in the world. most americans you ask wont find anything wrong with that and a lot of americans will say: "well thats good, i feel a lot safer to know that if they blow up our half of the world then we can at least blow up there half of the world too" but do you realize that the reason we're all slaves to our jobs and we never get to see our kids or our pets or anything outside of the country is because we're all working to manufacture bombs. even though youre not actually BUILDING bombs yourself, just the fact that you show up for work and you earn something means youre automatically contributing money to this effort. not to the effort of building newer space rockets to explore other worlds. not for finding the cures for cancer or aids (which were probably man made diseases anyway but we're not getting into that right now) not for making anything better for us. no way. its going for bombs. its going for "blowing up the bad guys" well guess what: we're the bad guys too. we kill innocent people. we kill their people, we kill our own people. USA is killer, guys. reeeal killer. dont be fooled. this isnt about justice. this isnt about freedom. this isnt about the bad guys vs the good guys. theres only bad guys. bad guys vs bad guys and innocent people get killed in between. but its not murder if youre doing it with a bunch of people and you wave a flag behind it. this isnt about osama or saddam...its about oil. of course you knew that. we all know that. but it just doesnt sink in does it. how far will people let our government push us before we say enough is enough? we're figting a war because we're sick of thier wars among each other constantly changing the price of our oil. we wanna make an excuse to go in there and take over, set up our oil stuff and pump out as much as we can before they try to take it back. screw the middleman. screw the middle east. there all weird anyway. what the hell is that religion? we should bomb them. and somehow americans everywhere just nod their heads and say yeah...that sounds right...well i better get back to work building bombs. so we can kill people. i think we need to say that more on TV and stuff... more of the reality. instead of saying droping bombs or "targets" or any kind of distanced words like that they should just come on the news and say like "yeah today we killed a bunch of people over here...and then we went over there and killed a bunch MORE people over there....and to top it all off we killed even MORE people right here. and now back to ted with the oil price report: "well as you can see the price of oil is steadily dropping and now we can afford the luxerys of bathing in oil, and even watering our lawn with oil. oil is really great stuff guys! fun for the whole family, back to you jim. blah blah blah.
im not really composing or organizing this rant. i hope im not going to be labeled as a terrorist for all that. you see thats the worst part. even IM scared to say this kind of stuff. and im not even anyone important, no one is going to listen to me. think of all the people who think they have some kind of power right now....they dont want to stick there neck out and have it chopped off for saying something "un patriotic" dont get me wrong...im patriotic...to a certain sense...but lately ive been feeling like the team i was rooting for got all my favorite players traded away to other teams and now they want me just to root for the money behind the team...want me to root for the team manager...the team owner. i want to root for freedom. but not the kind of freedom americans envision: "my freedom of speech to annoy people" "my freedom to throw my trash wherever i want" "my freedom to be a giant asshole and fuck you if you dont like it"
the freedom that allows you to limit the freedom of the people around you, isnt really freedom at all...is it?
thats all i can bear for now, im gonna try posting more often.

sup guys...yeah chris told me to "update your livejournal, damnit" so...damnit here goes. it has been a while hasnt it....last i wrote about poking holes in the condoms...i think i was bitter about girls...pissed that everyone else was getting some love xcept me...well thats changed now...thanks karen :)
i dont wanna get too personal on this thing but i will say that im happier than i can remember being since small kid time....i kind of feel young again actually so thats a good way of putting it :) good luck to us!
in other aspects of life: ive decided to hell with calculus this semester and im gonna withdraw from it...i cant take the bullshit anymore..the teacher is pushing it just like they did in highschool and thats why i couldnt learn it then. sometimes i feel really stupid that i have taken so many math courses and i still dont really know much....it doesnt help that the teacher for the math lab couldnt teach to save his life....like if he had tied the knot around his own neck and he was trying to tell you how to untie it, he would die from starvation before you could manage it. that would be nice to see but i already have dont have a criminal record yet so i decided i should just withdraw from the class as an alternative to homicide. would have been more like homo-cide if you ask me...that guy is definitely queer, yo. so thats the deal on that...
my other teacher...for cs201...damn he cant teach eaither...so i have to ask him to help me out after class or personal kind like that...and then he gets close to explain things and breathes in my face and it smells like he has been eating shit for breakfast for the past 15 years....not very condusive to learning...why does UHH suck so bad??? can i transfer to manoa or something for the fall? that would be nice....im not trying to be negative....these are real issues to me...im just being a little more honest than most people would be. please understand :D

BT - Never gonna come back down.mp3 thats the one...go on audiogalaxy.com and download it....by the way if you didnt know, audiogalaxy is the best place to download electronic music. ever. i think for commercial stuff its got a lot of it banned (like napster) but for techno its unbeatable...and the interface...thats the best part. you always complete your downloads cause its clever like that. finally. sheesh! fucking napster. fucking winmx. fucking morpheus. fucking MIRC. fucking FTP. over it...audiogaLAZY baby :)
dunno what im talking about really but i know i havent posted in forever and maybe just maybe i can pull the whole quantity over quality thing and youll be like..."well it sucked and i almost fell asleep reading it but at least there was a lot there to read. right on man here take whatever you need from my wallet for haivng such a cool website man. " that would be nice....but i guess ill have to be content to make my own money...im supposed to be working with gaura installing wireless internet antennas all over hilo n stuff but our boss is being kind of...i dunno even what to call it...lazy? we're ready to work n it keeps gettting put offffff and we're getting pissed offf, yo but if work ever finally does start it should be good pay.
on friday night we threw United we Dance 3...same place as the last two...we had just got about everything set up at 9:00 and then the cops showed up and threatened arrest if we didnt leave (fucked up, yeah?) so we left...packed everything up n stuff...met at the tesoro by the gingerpatch in hilo and decided on where to move the party to....moved it to this macadamia orchard....that worked out pretty nice...hide and keiko stayed back at the first spot to tell people about the change (thanks guys! :)) and amazingly, the party was pretty huge...as a result of the change we were unable to charge admission so we were kind of upset thinking we wouldnt get our money back on the speakers and the generator rental....but we set up a store and sold glowsticks, water, soda and food...also sent around a donation collection that earned like 60 bux...after everything was done we had broke even just like last time :) and it was a killer party besides the point of being free....i even got to spin...hehe...like in the morning....oh wait i had another set earlier in the night...my friend forest, and dave too..that whole crew were all dying for some house music so i played some selected tracks from Bad Boy bill, bangin in london....starting off with "all you bitches wanna fuck with me...fuckin you bitches like jodeci" it was pretty cool actually cause there was no one dancing and then i jumped up there and almost immediately there were all kinds of raver kids bouncing around...thank you house :) oh and then just to prove my true DJ beginners luck skill, i attemtped to beatmatch one song (someone gave me the cd right then of some new badboy bill stuff) and suprisingly, i actually thought it went really smoothly....even dave commented on it (cause he was standing right there) i tried to do some of that beatmatching stuff later but i fucked it up....beginners luck, yo!
shitty part of the night though, lots of mokes managed to find the party and they were there, getting drunk and causing trouble....throwing fireworks at the ravers and hassling the store for "free samples" after a while, forest walked over to the mokes and shook one of thier hands and asked who was throwing the firecrackers and right there some other guy punched him in the face...twice.... fucked up!!! i hate those mokes..i cant beleive forest was still ok to party the rest of the night and didnt try to get people together to counterattack...but in his words "let the party keep going" at one point, somehow everyone got scared that there were cops coming, so like half of everyone left...but ALL the mokes left...that gave me a great idea....pass the word out to the raver kids that we're gonna yell COPS and that they should act like theyre gonna leave but dont really leave....all the mokes will leave us alone!!! i told lots of people...and i think that its a good plan if it happens again. next time we'll have a map point where people will pay admission for a map to the party....and get thier hand stamped so people cant just tell thier friends where it is... we'll check stamps and take admission at the door too, if you know where it is without going to the map point first.
wow talk about Rave culture, yo...its amazing what has come out of a simple idea, and hanging out with the right group of friends. thanks guys :) i know none of them read this but i want to say thanks anyway. to all you people who actually DO read this, i still think you're cool but damnit what were you doing on friday night that you couldnt be there? ahh i guess raving is not for everyone....wait...yeah it is..you losers!!! hhahah nah brah, jess kidding.
anyway. ive said too much. shoots den!

heyy thanks to everyone who was at UWD II, it was a blast....id say at least 150 people showed up...and i didnt see anyone having a bad time except there were some mokes that came...but that always happens and they didnt actually beat anyone up so i guess thats a plus. DJs: Rubio, Wic One, Yamato, and even say :D and there was probly some other people who had a go at it but i wasnt watching the main stage the whole time. stoked.....we threw a PHAT rave Thanks to James, Say, Ian, Dave, Dave, Joey, Grant...oh and Keiko and Hire....oh and i probly helped too. hehe
next month, last friday of the month...we are gonna do it again....maybe not at the same location though...stay tuned....

i used to be somebody...then my keyboard broke and now i dont have a u key...i can type u becase im clever enogh to copy it and press ctrl v everytime i need it....but really now....how long will i put up with this keyboard before i go insane? last night my keyboard was really broken....i looked at it today and the pin on the connecter is broken off...i have no idea how that happened without me noticing it immediately...so i sspect sabatoge....or maybe lightning coldve done it? whatever....thats jst GOD sabatogueing me....now i have no u key becase i got 2 old ass keyboards from this guy in downtown hilo that sort of hired me to do some odd jobs involving really old compters....anyway the other keyboard's u key works...bt in addition to u, everytimg yo press that button, it types ASLkl;asdf and things like that....no matter what yo press yo get at least 3 keystrokes....now thats weird.... cold be some new code that i invented, yo. anyway this one has no u key....and that sux cause its one of the vowels...and theyre kind of necessary.... on the brighter note: i got my teeth cleaned today.....and i think i got a job at greensands :) well...i worked for them once so far and im spposed to go back tomorrow....aaaaaaaaaanyway i have nothing to say im jst trying to keep posting to this thing everyday becase i have no life (get it? oh wait...it wasnt a joke:(

i woke up several times this morning....and several more times well into the afternoon. 2 o clock i beleive it was when i finally managed to drag myself out of bed....not because i had something to do....but because i had left my playlist on repeat and had been hearing the same 12 songs all night long...all morning, and now some of the afternoon. who knows how many subliminal messages i left myself open to by that mistake? 12 probly....all of them contrubiting to the reason/excuse for which i will behave very irrationally for a period of not less than two weeks.

damn its 3AM already... and say said she was going to page me "early" in the morning...to go to the sunday hippie market or whatever that thing is between ainaloa and pahoa...will i go? at this point in time, im not really sure...i could easily imagine myself sleeping through my pager. gaura came over tonight.....neither of us could do anything creative...its rediculous...i think im burnt out on music...and its just as well cause i should be doing my homework instead. howcome i cant have my shit together like everyone else? could it be the desk hits? maybe i should do coke instead...then i would at least feel like i was getting more accomplished. right...is that the way it works? i had an idea for a comic the other day...one that follows the life of the modern day energy vampire....parking his car on the side of a busy interstate, getting a jumpstart from so many good citizens and draining whatever power he could manage to store in his oversized batteries....later to the electric company to make a deposit of charge in exchange for cash which would undoubtedly lead to hookers.

the desk hit: when you scrape up alll the lil peices of weed that dropped on your desk over the past couple weeks and you smoke that....its questionable cause theres undoubtedly bits of things in there that arent weed at all...dead skin and insect parts come to mind... this concludes todays installment of what i hope will be a more spontaneous interaction with my livejournal...stay tuned? more like dont get your hopes up
